The Permanent Collection

The Gallery's collections consist of over 6,800 works of art, acquired either by purchase or gifts. About 60 of the most significant of these works are on view at any one time in the Permanent Collection galleries. The Thomas Bouckley Collection was donated to the Gallery by the late Thomas Bouckley, archivist of Oshawa. The computerized collection comprises nearly 3,000 historical photographs of Oshawa and Durham Region. About 100 works are featured in four exhibitions per year. In addition to art, the Gallery acquires research materials. Its Library is the largest art library in Durham Region devoted to fine art and the history of visual arts.

Until 19 September 2010

Peter Sager was born in Vancouver and was the youngest person to have a solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery (at the age of 17 in 1937). Taught by Painters Eleven member J. Macdonald, Sager produced prints, sculptures, paintings and drawings that would be shown internationally.
